Recycling Old Batteries
A good rule of thumb is to change your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries every six months around Daylight Saving Time. While the rational is easy to see here, many people simply do not know what to do with the old batteries. Often these are discarded unnecessarily. The acids and rare metals in these batteries should never go in landfills. Places like Home Depot provide ways to recycle batteries. If you are not sure how to recycle batteries in your area, ask others what they do or search the Internet. Recycling is not just a moral obligation but a requirement by law and an important part of being a responsible citizen in the modern world.
